OBJECTIVE

To develop a rationale for interpreting a song of choice through typography, imagery, and layout.

SOLUTION

I chose the song Weight In Gold  by Gallant, as I found the lyrics  and music to be very emotionally expressive and unique. I found it to be a hauntingly beautiful, yet unrestrained cry for help, with the singer desperately wanting a weight to be lifted off his shoulders. The synthesizers playing in the background also give the song a very cosmic, otherworldly feel that I wanted to capture.

I decided to play with type printed on transparencies and submerged underwater, to express the heavy, sinking feeling of carrying a weight.  I also played with projecting images of this type onto various surfaces to create a more dimensional design solution.
